Elora has population growth pressures that have already started and will be exponential in the next 30 yrs in relation to the past 100 yrs. Safe and sustainable water sources should not be threatened by corporate extraction.
Plastic threatens the integrity of our planet and removing or controlling water as a portable commodity would ease and eventually remove this underestimated factor effecting human health and well being. The process of bottle manufacturing/ filling consumes additional water.
The fees for water extraction are without apparent relationship to its value...If water extraction, for the purpose of portable resale, were to have a fee of $10,000 per million litres (penny per litre)....corporations would not curb their appetite for exploitation. The 'under $10' fee is the best example of the void in reasoning ability by all of us.
Moratorium is an excellent opportunity to pause for reflection, input of thought and to measure public sentiment. Long term study and a 10 yr moratorium would demonstrate wisdom in leadership of this generation. Our Grand children will not think kindly on the haste at which we 'gave it all away' .
