I believe the permit for water taking in the Elora area should be denied for a number of reasons. First our current water infrastructure is old and we need to add new wells in any event and we are a designated growth area so we will need even more infrastructure for this to happen. The site of the Nestle well on Middlebrooke Road is very close to a couple of potential sites and given that they need to be 2 km apart, we would not be able to locate them near here is Nestle was given a permit. We have had the studies done (Tier 3 Water Budget Study and the Water Supply Master Plan) and know that we are at significant risk for municipal water supply and need at least 4 new municipal wells. More research will be concluded by February 2023. So any moratorium should be extended until this date if not out right denied at this stage.
Nestles wants to take 1.6 million litres a day and our system cannot sustain this.
