Thank you for extending the moratorium on bottled water permits. This should however become a permanent moratorium. There is no way we should sanction the extraction of water from our water tables to put into single use plastic bottles that are then sold for profit by a private company. Most of this will be shipped out of area which means the water is gone for good.
In addition, the single-use plastic bottles are creating a waste nightmare as most of them end up in landfill rather than being recycled.
Yes there are other processes that extract water, such as municipalities but these processes pass the water through uses that lead to it eventually returning to the water table.As well, with the climate warming we will be dealing with water uncertainty in the near future so we need to protect the sources that we currently have.
Please remember that the overwhelming majority of Ontarians see water as a public resource, one to be protected for now and for future generations.
