These policies are laudatory and moving in the right direction. They provide the tools and back-up for local activists, local governments and engineers to use when approaching councils for approval and funding. However, funding is the issue, especially in the area of infrastructure. Peterborough County does not have a lot of money. The recent funds from the OMCC have provided a significant opportunity for infrastructure improvement, education and the enhancement of safety. Peterborough County council just approved 3 initiatives and this would not have happened without the money. One of these initiatives involves signage and the other two will provide connectivity via paved shoulders on busy roads. We in the Active Transportation community are very happy to see this. Perhaps Ontario can do what Oregon and other locations have done - allocate a percentage of gas tax money to the goals of CyleOn 2.0. in order to provide stable, ongoing funding.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment.
