Dear Katerina Minaeva
We appreciate the opportunity provided to offer comment the option of a Share the Road training workshop in lieu of fines.
4) Promote Cycling Awareness and Behavioural Shifts
•Local communities have initiated cycling education programs, but routinely face the challenge of adequately funding and resourcing these initiatives. While we support the province in developing common standards for cycling education, we would recommend that the intent be to: Invest in a comprehensive cycling education program that will provide common standards for cycling curriculum, instructional development and certification, and province-wide course delivery.
•It is our strong belief that in order to make widespread change in our transportation choices that all children ought to participate in bicycle transportation programs. If all school aged children learn to ride a bike for transportation, they will grow into adults who are more likely to ride a bike, and understand how to share the road. Educational programs for an entire cohort of grade school students has the potential to radically shift the culture that surrounds cycling in Ontario.
•We do not understand what is meant by ‘an Integrated Multi-channel Marketing and Awareness Campaign’ nor the ‘Ontario Cycling Coordination Committee’.
Please be in touch if you have any questions.
Kindly,
Lindsay Stroud
