I do not support the spring bear hunt. It is almost impossible to tell female from male bears before shooting. If a hunter kills a female bear, he will simply not report it and, if worried about the unlikely event of being caught, simply walk away from the carcass.
Focus on ecotourism where the real, sustainable money is.
As for the apparent concern of those of us living in bear country, an informal survey after curling didn't see one person agree they were worried for their safety when it comes tobears.
