We are concerned about the proposal by Woolwich Bio-En Inc. (ERO 019-0984) for a number of reasons:
1. Routes into Elmira are challenged by vehicle volume more so today than ever before and are approaching a version of gridlock that is unacceptable. Woolwich Bio-En's proposal to double the number of its large trucks on our roads from 40 to 80 roundtrips a day promises to aggravate a situation that is approaching crisis proportions.
2. Given the nature of its activity, why is this company located in a suburban bedroom community with a predominantly residential population? Its truck traffic and odour issues currently make it a blight on the community and its immediate neighbours -- enlarging its facility to handle 57% more material will further exacerbate these issues.
3. Why does a proposal to enlarge its facility to handle 57% more material require a truck traffic increase of 100%?
4. Why did we have to learn of this proposal by neighbourhood word-of-mouth? It seems the company has not placed the proposal on its website as required and has not adequately alerted the community to meetings and deadlines, also as required. The process should be slowed down to allow adequate community involvement in a decision that will affect our Elmira quality of life.
