I totally object to the licensing of the Hallman Pit and am doing so based on my personal experience with these pits.
In Greely Ontario, where I spent all of my childhood and a good deal of my early adulthood, we were surrounded by such pits. They destroyed our wells, and the foundations of our homes. These companies don't care what environmental damage they do and even less about the impact of damaged well water, ground water and the quality of life of the neighbors.
The noise and dust created by endless convoys of dump trucks was unbearable, especially in the heat of the summer and many people suffered respiratory issues as a result.
It makes no sense to have a gravel pit in a Source Water Protection Area and the support of such a proposal is evidence that the government cannot be trusted by the People.
The hundreds of thousands of truck trips per year will create traffic hazards for pedestrians, cyclists, school buses, agricultural machinery and local drivers.
There is no reason for this pit to be licensed, except if some bureaucrats are paid off to turn a blindeye to resident concerns.
