There should be no spring hunt of black bears. Hunting while mothers are rearing young creates conditions which are virtually guaranteed to lead to orphaned cubs, even if that is not the intention of the law. Orphaned bear cubs are subject to needless cruelty and misery, and when mother bears are killed it drastically amplifies the effect that hunting has on the bear population. As a resident of Ontario, I oppose this policy.
