I am opposed to nuclear energy because it is too costly both in its energy production and sequestering of the hazardous waste generated, too dangerous in its radioactive fuel, too complex to be a safe technology, too deadly that a slight error could cause catastrophic results, too large and centralized in its power production, and too egregious in its regulatory anti-democracy.
I think the process of shutting down reactors needs to begin immediately, while fossil fuel energy is still reasonably available and inexpensive, so as to facilitate the energy costs of decommissioning and decontamination.
New sources of renewable energy combined with energy conservation offer a transition to a new society not based on exploitation.
