Spring black bear hunting should not be permitted. It is difficult to tell the difference between male and female bears, and even those with experience can make mistakes, accidentally killing a female bear who may have cubs. Hunting in spring will put this population at risk, as mothers may accidentally be killed. While there are restrictions on killing female black bears, this cannot prevent these unintentional deaths. It is too risky to allow this.
