The risk of orphaning young bears and injury to nursing females or their offspring overweighs any supposed "benefit" to hunting bears in spring. Bears have a vital role in the health of their local ecosystem which is naturally controlled by checks and balances that have been around for thousands of years. There is no overwhelming reason to reinstate the spring bear hunt except at the lobbying from bear hunters. That is not a valid reason to overturn or modify this prohibition.
