The spring bear hunt should continue. It was a key part of black bear management for decades in Ontario and was successful. The cancellation of the spring hunt and effects of climate change has resulted in increased bear numbers, range expansion well into southern Ontario with significant populations occurring in the 905 area and Lake Simcoe watershed. This has increased bear-human conflicts, crop damage and increased risks.
