It's unfortunate that the value being placed on our wildlife comes down to the almighty dollar. The spring bear hunt brings in millions and when it was cancelled in the past, the tourism industry lost money. As an Ontario resident, I do not support the notion of a permanent spring black bear hunting season and believe it should be cancelled. Females with cubs are not properly protected. There are substantial flaws with baiting practices. The hunt does not decrease bear/human conflict (as per the government's own 2014 study on the subject). Additionally, it creates safety concerns for humans and their pets.
