I would like to see Ontario move away from nuclear power as soon as possible. It is not a sustainable technology, is hugely expensive and vulnernable to accidents caused by extreme weather, is an easy target for terrorist attack, and involves limited job creation. Instead we should be moving as quickly as possible to a 100% renewal energy system. The technology exists and is scaleable, costs are now comparable to traditional energy (and less if current subsidies to fossil-fuel industries and environmental costs for traditional energy sources are factored in), it is community centred, providing significant economic and job-creation benefits while improving energy security, and is the only way we can hit the targets required to prevent runaway global warming. Now is the time for bold public leadership on climate and energy in Ontario; let's be the California or Denmark of Canada!
