As a student member of the OPFA, an aspiring professional forester, and avid wilderness traveler, I wish to express my support for the expansion of wilderness parks in Ontario. I believe that maintaining as much area as possible in a state of unfettered, natural management is one of the most important contributions we can make to the health and prosperity of this planet. Wabakimi is one of our largest parks, and an opportunity to reduce human impact on this landscape should not be missed. I have traveled in most, if not all of Ontario's wilderness parks. I value these experiences because they offer a chance to observe and interact with natural systems that are intricate, interwoven, and of a complexity that we will likely never completely understand. As our comprehension of ecosystems advances, the number of questions increases and the level of detail that we are exposed to is magnified exponentially. The best way to preserve natural processes is through reducing the level of resource extraction. I support an increase in wilderness park area in Ontario, and focusing this expansion on making continuous, watershed based areas is important. I also support the removal of motorized travel privileges in wilderness parks for commercial or private interests.
