1. I agree that the identified species and carrier should be included in the list of identified species for regulation under the Invasive Species Act, 2015.
2. I do not have any personal experience with the identified species but have been working on addressing the Eurasian Milfoil problem for over 5 years.
3. I do not have a business that will be directly impacted by this addition to the Invasive Species Act but limiting the spread of any invasive species will have a positive impact on our natural environment and that, in turn, will have a positive impact on tourism and recreation in the province.
4. All of the regulations in sections 6,7 and 8 should be applied.
5. Importation of dead prohibited species could only be allowed for education or scientific study purposes.
Carrier regulations must be expressly stated and enforced. The Alberta use of spot checks is an excellent idea. Invasive species are spread by boaters who move from one lake to another. I have been involved in educational programs advising boaters to completely clean their boats, drain the bilges etc. but it is now time to adopt regulations and enforcement procedures. This is the only way we will limit the spread of invasive species.
