The proposed changes to a "market-based" approach for Land Needs Methodology is problematic. Market forces should not determine urban growth. We need an "intensification first" approach to land needs in order to curb urban sprawl, protect agricultural land and natural lands and to create urban communities that are sustainable, inclusive and climate change resistant.
This government needs to put more focus on the future needs based on climate change. We cannot continue our land use policies as we have in the past, but should look to European countries where building forms are dense, and urban areas are walkable with good transit options to allow people to do without personal automobiles.
