Comment
Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments on the proposed changes to Ontario’s Water Quantity Management Framework.
Staff have reviewed the proposed changes with Council and wish to provide the following comments:
Generally it would appear the proposed changes will be looked upon favourably by Algonquin Highlands. However, given the fragility of the Algonquin Highlands water system further impacted by the annual water drawdown from the reservoir lakes for the Trent-Severn Watershed and increased frequency of drought like conditions, the protection of existing water resources is of the utmost importance and concern for the Township.
Significant tracts of Crown Land exist within the boundaries of the Township of Algonquin Highlands. Can the Province clarify if the proposed requirement for a water bottling company to have the support of a host municipality if they are operating on Crown Land would still be a requirement? Should the answer be no it is requested this be reviewed further and amended to still require the support of the host municipality regardless if the operation is on a Crown parcel.
Your consideration on this matter is requested.
