Updating Ontario’s Water Quantity Management Framework
Good Afternoon,
I live in a small community of Shanty Bay adjacent to Lake Simcoe. We have been shocked and left in complete dismay in regards to a local Cannabis operation that has set up despite an Interim Control By-Law in place.
Water consumption for Cannabis ( that is not used to feed the population) is upwards of the same quantity as water bottling. We have watched the local well head protection area and Lake Simcoe conservation lands excavated and tapped into and pumping water out consistently to grow these plants. One cannabis plant take upwards of 25 litres a day. This facility is 256 acres. This will be astronomical water use for a product that is arguably not benefiting local citizens.
Safe guards need to be put in place to protect citizens against this type of water consumption as it is a drain on fresh water allowing private corporations to profit from a natural resource they do not have to pay for, maintain or protect.
This issue of Cannabis and the use of water will more than likely be popping up for some time to come.
Thank you
