Our government needs to be looking closely at water consumption being used in hemp and cannabis operations in Ontario. In this newly regulated industry, huge amounts of water are being taken from rural areas to grow this crop which is compromising water access and availability for nearby residents. This is a growing concern that is quietly infiltrating rural communities. Many of these operations are on an industrial scale, and as such, are requiring enornous amounts of a commodity that communities will need for generations to come. They seem to self monitor which needs to change.
