I am already concerned about this proposal as there was little to no notice about the establishment of the Temagami Tenure Modernization Advisory Team (“Temagami Advisory Team”).
Additionally, its composition of industry, municipal and indigenous representatives appears to leave out those for whom conservation and forest protection is a focus.
I am not opposed to a local forest management body operating with a sustainable forest licence (SFL). However, the composition of that body needs to be diverse so that it does not solely include people who to seek to harvest trees for economic gain.
Temagami has an extremely vibrant and important tourism industry that relies on intact forest landscapes, including old growth stands. These values need to be represented and advanced.
