I fully support this proposal.
Falconry is likely the least impactful method of hunting on game animal populations and is recognized as a heritage activity.
The OHC has worked hard in the field to acquire data on active goshawk nest sites in southern Ontario. This will encourage further efforts to monitor and study this species. I believe a wild take of Goshawks would cause the species to suffer no harm and would enhance the falconry in Ontario.
I truly believe eliminating the draw would be a benefit to falconry in Ontario as it allows everyone to utilize wild native raptors taken in the first years which are the ones they suffer the highest mortality. Once successfully hunted, they can be returned to the wild if desired. Captive bred birds cannot be placed in the wild.
This gives falconers the option to obtain wild birds and are not forced to utilize captive bred birds.
