I fully support this proposal.
Eliminating the draw process for acquiring a raptor through wild take is a great step in helping out all falconers practice falconry in a traditional and sustainable way. As an apprentice falconer who was not successful in the lottery draw this season for wild take, I have first hand experience in the difficulties it causes not allowing all falconers access to a wild bird. Taking a wild bird for falconry use is the traditional way falconry has been practiced for thousands of years and has no impact on raptor populations. Training a wild bird to hunt with a falconer and releasing it back into a wild population builds a connection to the land and birds we love and allowing all falconers to practice wild take is necessary.
I fully support adding goshawks to the list of raptors available for wild take. The Ontario hawking club through its monitoring of wild goshawks in the past and future will allow the wild take of goshawks to be a sustainable way to practice falconry with a bird not easily acquired through other means.
