Falconers in the US are ever evolving to play a larger role in raptor conservation and even raptor rehabilitation efforts. The take of wild raptors, with already high mortality rates, isn’t something falconers do for the purpose of keeping a pet or to have bragging rights. Falconers are able here to be proud of the work they put in just to have an opportunity to work with these raptors. The training and education is fine tuned to ensure the proper treatment and skills necessary to work with a raptor. These skills and methods have become valuable in the rehabilitation and release of other raptors as well. Here taking wild raptors is handled with great humility and is something to be proud of because it is well understood that falconry is one of the best contributors to the future of raptor conservation. I highly hope that passionate Canadian falconers will be able to do the same, and will be given the chance to prove just how beneficial falconry actually is.
