My brother-in-law is an active falconer and I fully support the proposals in ERO# 019-1806. Falconers are ardent conservationists with vested interest in maintaining wild hawk populations. Unpermitted live-capture of wild hawks by licensed falconers has been successfully implemented in other jurisdictions in both Canada and the U.S.
The addition of the northern goshawk to the wild take species would be especially welcome as they are difficult to obtain elsewhere. And by limiting the take to one goshawk per MNRF district local populations would be minimally impacted.
In conclusion, I believe that the changes put forward in this proposal will greatly benefit falconers and apprentices and can be implemented with no negative effects on wild hawk populations.
