I am dismayed by the government's slow movement on greening our economy. We do not have the time to do any of this slowly, or to wait for public will to be more strongly in favour of what needs to be done. I have five children, and am deeply worried about what kind of future they're going to have. My family has geothermal heating; we joined the Microfit program and have solar panels on our roof; we are vegetarian and buy organic food to support that market; as soon as there's an all-electric minivan I will be in line to buy it, along with the help (I hope) of improved subsidies. I am a teacher -- I'm not rich -- but I am committed to doing my best to shift our economy to a sustainable model. Our province needs to do much, much more to compel people to live more sustainably. We must put limits on packaging and increase the responsibility businesses must take for the waste they create. We must ban bottled water and stop issuing water taking permits to corporations.
Until we figure out what to do with nuclear waste, and to prevent -- completely prevent -- the possibility of nuclear accidents like the one that happened in Japan not long ago, I am 100% against investing any more money in nuclear energy.
Enough waiting, enough stalling, enough worrying about how action will affect political power -- ACT, before it's too late.
