I do not support the Government of Ontario's new proposal to to create the Species at Risk Conservation Trust. This new regulatory mechanism is effectively a "pay-to-kill" option for developers to proceed with harmful actions without meaningful compensation. This proposal also risks allowing irreparable damage to endangered species to occur because developers have made a financial commitment, even if loss of certain species causes priceless damage to the ecosystem. Ontario is fortunate to host a wealth of biodiversity and this economically appealing but environmentally detrimental proposal will strip our province of its ecological endowment.
