The SEV in your statement…

The SEV in your statement document is based on the previous MoE EE document (Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow; Shaping Our Schools, Shaping Our Future) but is incomplete; and, as it stands, could have been written decades ago. Below is a full vision that should be incorporated into the revised SEV.

"Ontario’s education system will prepare students with the knowledge, skills, perspectives, and practices they need to be environmentally responsible citizens. Students will understand our fundamental connections to each other and to the world around us through our relationship to food, water, energy, air, and land, and our interaction with all living things. The education system will provide opportunities within the classroom and the community for students to engage in actions that deepen this understanding."

This vision statement actually provides accountability, action and transparency that works for the people of Ontario, and the young citizens in K-12. What I would add is also environmental practices for sustainability.

Attached is a policy and education piece, focused on the pressing climate change education in Canada that can be used to better frame the role of the Ministry of Education and its responsibilities to EE in K-12 contexts.
