It is FUNDAMENTALLY WRONG for a government of any sort to pass legislation that allows it to ignore its own policies. Especially an overarching policy that has been developed, amended, and revised over the decades (and political parties) to provide consistent and effective direction related to the protection of Provincially Significant features. “The policies of the Provincial Policy Statement represent MINIMUM standards. (pg. 3 PPS 2020)” and should not be allowed to be ignored by elected officials who are only in a position of power for a short period of time to advance their political agenda. The Provincially Significant features of this province are critically important to Ontarians for a plethora of reasons, not least of which is environmentally integrity and services. Once they have been destroyed, it is virtually impossible for them or their functions to be regained. The short-sightedness of this proposal is astounding and a disgrace to all Ontarians (except the developers and select few who will benefit). Proposals/decisions like these are the reason Doug Ford’s government/ the Conservative Party is causing moderate minded conservatives to look elsewhere for representation.
