Hello,

I am writing to you to express my concerns in regards to Bill 257 Schedule 3. While I agree that projects such as affordable housing need to be implemented quickly, I do not think Minister Zoning Orders should not have to be consistent with Ontario’s fundamental planning principles, as set out in the Provincial Policy Statement. Lands currently under the protection of the PPS will become vulnerable to fast-tracked development projects which could result in protected farmland, wetlands and natural habitats being destroyed. The current policies are in place for a reason and while I understand the frustration with project delays, these steps need to be taken to ensure that developers don't go "power crazy" with being able to by-pass certain policies.

The proposal mentions Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing taking other considerations into account when making decisions to support a clean and healthy environment, but as we've seen in the past - from all levels of government, regardless of political party - that environmental impact is not made a top priority.

With the on-going pandemic, citizens have become more appreciative than ever for nature. It's important that we keep natural areas protected so that humans can respectfully enjoy them and wildlife can thrive in them. We need to make sure developers take all the necessary steps to minimize environmental impact, even if it means slowing down certain projects. Citizens need to have their input on projects as well; it's unfair if a MZO can by-pass stages like that.

I strongly urge you to not go through with the proposed changes.
