I do not agree with Bill 4 and I believe it is a step in the wrong direction. Canada, along with 180 other countries have set out a GHG reduction target of 80% by the year 2050. I know that this a really aggressive target however it is needed in order to culturally shift the way we do day to day business.
Most people believe that the biggest GHG emitters are electricity and natural gas however it is transportation is the largest contribution to GHG's and what did the new provincial government do? Make a promise to drop the price in fuel and make it next to impossible for the working class to afford electric vehicles!
The sun and wind are renewable resources that are not going anywhere anytime soon and are pretty reliable! Why wouldn't we look at renewable resources? Of course, prior to installing a ton of renewable resource, we should be looking at how efficiently cities and communities are using energy. If we are able to reduce the amount of energy used then there won't be a need to install as much large infrastructure. For example, if you are renovating a house or building, you would complete the efficiency items before trying to size out a new air handling unit or boiler because you might not need as much energy to heat/cool a space. The plan that was rolled out by the Liberal government was not perfect however it did give majority of people the tools to be able to make their homes more energy efficient and drove the grid to more renewable energy resources.
