This kit/guide has no recommendations included :responsibilities of municipal staff if there is staff member assigned to the MHC. It needs to have responsibilities spelled out for municipal staff. Staff is the go between the Committee and other Municipal Staff in other departments such as planning, engineering, transportation, cemeteries, parks, roads, water bodies, - policies affecting cultural resources, and Council.
Responsibilities - promote and educate municipal staff and Councillors about the value of heritage, heritage policies; encourage other municipal departments to consult with MHC and its heritage planners re proposals impacting cultural resources before recommended to Council for approval; muncipal heritage staff should have training and upgrading in training with respect to building trades and building materials appropriate for rehabilitation and renovation of heritage structures; learn the value of reusing materials such as retention of wood framed windows and not recommending and agreeing with homeowners for the replacement of historic wood framed windows with vinyl; municipal heritage staff , in conjunction with municipal heritage committee members if possible, should provide and promote the value of heritage structures to groups such as Boards of Trade, Realtors, Downtown Business groups, public libraries. Muncipal Staff provide owners of designated buildings with quarterly
information via email or print about conservation practices, heritage materials availability, helpful hints for maintaining buildings.
Lastly, staff need to enable the work of committee members and heritage building owners.
