Cancelling the Ontario cap and trade program without first offering any immediate alternative is environmentally irresponsible.

This move is going to cause the Ontario government to waste more money on law suits arising from the cancelling of contracts. It will also waste even more money from their plan to initiate a law suit against the federal government for their carbon tax. This carbon tax is one that is easily avoidable as it is one that the federal government will only put on provinces that do not have their own plan.

There is a reason the federal government has this back up plan. It is far past the time that governments need to be taking action on this subject. Instead the Ontario government is wasting time and money on lawsuits fighting climate action progress when we should be fighting climate change.

The province has already lost money in the Tesla law suit and I'm sure many more lawsuits are on the way. Greenpeace is another recent one. It seems that all this government has accomplished in it's short time in office is the cause of litigation.

I'm confident that this is not what the people of Ontario want.

This cap and trade system has been successful in making the province money which has been funnelled back into environmental programs.

Maybe there is a better plan for accomplishing this - but if you have one then the right thing to do is propose it before cancelling the current plan. This move would make the need for challenging the federal government's carbon tax unnecessary as well.

The way the Ontario government is proceeding does not leave me with any trust that they will propose a plan that will significantly contribute to Ontario doing it's part in the fight against climate change.
