This Approved site is where a Quebec Sewage Pumping Company brings raw sewage from Quebec to dump it in Ontario.
Are Ottawa staff of the MOECP of Ontario checking a Quebec companies books for compliance in amount of sewage being dumped in Ontario. The sewage has been dumped (as more than one of the neighbors have viewed) raw sewage outside of the Approved area on the map, as submitted by the Ottawa MOECP to us. A satellite photo of the site sent by the Ottawa office even shows the sewage spreading on a slope that is over 9 % elevation with waterways and marshland surrounding the site. This is designated Provincial Wetlands where protected turtles and other aquatic life are found. Many homes and the village of Beachburg are close to the site. A waterway in a gully directly beside the site flows through the village of Beachburg.
If contamination of the waterways is occurring then a Quebec company would not be obliged to pay for a clean up of the site in Ontario. Why does Quebec need to dump their raw sewage in Ontario. They don't pay taxes here.
The Council of Whitewater Municipality voted on June 16,21 at the monthly Council meeting to have the spreading of QUEBEC raw sewage in Whitewater Municipality stopped immediately.
There are 5 Approved sites for the dumping of raw sewage within a 2 KM radius in this area of Whitewater Municipality. No scientific studies as you know have been done to prove this is not causing damage to the environment in the long term. This site has been the recipient of large amounts of Quebec raw sewage for over 10 years. The Approved site located directly behind this site has been the recipient of large amounts of raw sewage with plastics and other contaminants for over 30 years from a vast area of Renfrew County and Quebec. What Environmental study has shown this is not harmful to our land and water. Who is responsible to clean up these properties when they change owners.
This small area of Whitewater Township has an excessive number of sites Approved. This small area is saturated with raw sewage and its many contaminants .
Possible Solution: A Sewage Treatment Plant in Pembroke has the Capacity to handle the raw sewage from the region at a reasonable cost and the biosolid spreading is much better regulated than the dumping of raw sewage.
For the above reasons i request a renewal not be given for this Approved dumping site.
