Barrie is in supportive of the Towards a Greater Golden Horseshoe Transportation Plan Discussion Paper dated June 2021. It provides a good balance between renewal, transportation, and transit improvements.

Given the existing congestion on Highway 400 through Barrie and the significant growth directed to the Barrie area (which will add additional pressure on an already congested freeway), we would like to suggest that the widening of Highway 400 through Barrie be considered for inclusion in the near-term transportation improvements.

Please note as well that Barrie plans to update Barrie’s Transportation Master Plan and it would be helpful to know the approximate timing of when Highway 400 will be widened.
