"Under the Cap and Trade Cancellation Act, 2018, the Government is required to establish targets for reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in Ontario. The Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks is required to prepare a climate change plan and to prepare progress reports in respect of the plan."

I believe that pulling Ontario out of the cap and trade program will be a serious mistake by the Ford government and will set Ontario back in its efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. However, it seems that the new government is determined to do this, so what I want to know is, does the government have a climate change plan and if so, when will it be made public, what are the targets etc. etc.?

If this plan is not at least as effective at reducing Ontario's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as the Cap and Trade program developed by the previous Liberal government, your government will be in extremely serious trouble because a less-than-adequate plan will be an indication that your government does not take the issue of climate change seriously and will merely be going through the motions of dealing with it.

Donald Trump and his regime have catastrophically set back the USA's previous progress on reducing GHG emissions, and Trump is even on record as believing that climate change is a hoax. If Mr. Ford wants the people of Ontario to believe that he and his government are not like Donald Trump et al, but rather that he and his government believe that climate change is real and must be dealt with seriously, he had better make statements to that effect as soon as possible and get on quickly with the development of a comprehensive plan to reduce GHG emissions in Ontario, a plan that must include targets that are appropriate to the profound nature of the looming catastrophe of climate change.

If instead, Mr. Ford and his government drag their feet on the issue in a similar way to the Conservative government of Stephen Harper, Mr. Ford can be sure that the people of Ontario will rightly turn on him, and his government will be very short-lived.

I look forward to the government's comprehensive climate change plan and reports about its progress.
