The only market-based way to reduce greenhouse gases is a price on carbon, either a direct tax or a cap-and-trade system. In both cases, the government can return the income from these to the people, so it is not a “tax grab”. The other alternative is to use the income to provide incentives for better home insulation, buying electric cars, and developing new low-energy technologies. Pricing carbon works.
This says it all! I am so frustrated that some people are behaving as if all that matters is the almighty dollar when in fact what matters to a heck of a lot of us is that our children and their children have a future on a sustainable planet. We have to work fast however as time is running out given the 'feedback' loop that has been written about often! Let's get cracking, deny the nay-sayers, and give cap-and-trade a chance. In the future, they will wonder why we didn't DO more and at least they will know we tried THIS!
