As a german company that provides European and American clients with Green Energy solutions, canadian hydro, or especially Ontario hydro, RECs were a valuable option for many client to start their journey to 100% RE or climate neutrality. Many would go on to further develop their procurement stragedy with PPA or self-generation. With a dedicated registry for ontario, this option looses the ease of transaction which made it the go-to solution. Loads that are spread over the US and CA can no longer be addressed by this quality/origin, despite the fact that north america is considered one market in the GHGP Scope 2 Guidance and by any major reporting initiative (RE100, CDP, SBTi). To maintain most of the reneweble attributes in Ontratio, a cap on exports to US registries would seem like a more practical approach.
