I am vehemently opposed to granting site-specific air quality standards for the Lennox Generating Station (LGS) that are far less stringent than the current standards. LGS should be be forced to meet the current standards through implementation of proven and effective treatment technologies for NOx and SOx emissions. Additionally, the government should mandate timelines to comply with the more stringent future standards. SOx and NOx are linked to a myriad of environmental and human-health effects as a result of interactions in air and water that leads to formation of algal blooms, ozone and acid rain. This whole problem of continued reliance on natural gas generating plants and the emissions they produce can be traced back to Ford's short-sighted and misguided energy policies that included the cancellation of renewable energy projects and contracts when he became Premiere.
