I object to Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) request to allow increased site specific air standard for the facility located near Bath, Ontario. My home is located 12 km from the site and I am concerned about the impacts the increases will have to my family's health.
OPG should have been preparing for the decreases imposed by the Ontario government. Instead, it appears that they ignored them completely. Based on the numbers provided, even the difference between the current standards and OPG's forecast emission levels are staggering. To come to the Ontario Government with such a request points to some severe operational problems at that facility that warrant further investigation.
A further frustration is the lack of impact analyses done to determine future consequences of such increases. It is as though OPG is not concerned about the wellbeing of residents and the environment in the area. To have so little justification for the request reveals an arrogant sense of entitlement and full confidence that the Ontario Government will approve this with very little due diligence.
The Ontario Government should respond with a requirement that OPG immediately prepare and submit an emission reduction plan with very tight deadlines.
