Continual two year extensions do not provide a reasonable long term solution for Rondeau park, its users, cottagers, or the local community. No group is provided security on the future direction of the park with continued short term extensions, and all are left to question what future will occur. Only one reasonable solution has been presented to date, a purchase of leased land by the municipality and transfer of adjacent conserved lands to the park.
Studies and surveys completed over the years continually reflect that keeping cottages in the park does not have a negative impact on the environment, and that the cottages are and have always been a part of the Rondeau park experience. Removal of the cottages would negatively impact the local community and economy, and drastically reduce Ontario Parks revenue.
Providing a long term solution to the question of cottage leases is the greatest challenge facing the future of Rondeau Park and needs to be addressed quickly to ensure continued success of the park.
