I am personally appalled at the notion of developing on the green belt. This land was set aside for a purpose. It wasn’t set aside for future governments to greedily want to dig it up.

Destroying even 1 acre of land is a very slippery slope. Because where will it end? 15 acres this year. Will Doug Ford do 15 more next year and the year after that? Regardless of what he says now, we cannot trust him because his word is meaningless.

He said he would develop on the Green belt in his first election and quickly back tracked when there was public outcry. This isn’t a new policy that was thought up recently, Doug Ford has been planning this from day one, before he was even Premier.

Which makes me wonder how would Doug Ford benefit from this? The answer is that it is well known he has connections to developers, and it’s my belief that their interests are what is fuelling his desire to bulldoze parts of the green belt.

He wants to pass this as a solution to our housing crisis. But this is not the solution, low income affordable housing will not be placed in this area. Land by the green belt will be highly sought after. These will be very large homes on expensive lots next to large golf courses. There isn’t very good transit infrastructure up in these areas, low income families aren’t going to move up here and commute down into Toronto!

The green belt is not a pretty swath of land. It serves a purpose, and future generations will wonder what went wrong, and how could we have let this happen, once that is land is gone.

Developing on the green belt should be looked upon as a horrible horrible decision. Shame on Premiere Ford for entertaining this absurd idea.
