The proposed changes to the Greenbelt Area boundary are appalling. Hamilton residents have spoken clearly that we do NOT want our boundary expanded. While there is a housing crisis in Hamilton building more homes in these outer areas will not address the issue. Intensification within the current boundary will address the housing crisis. People of lower to middle incomes will not be able to afford these new homes. Cars will be required to live in these homes which will impact air quality. There will be negative environmental impact to sensitive wetlands within the existing Greenbelt.
I also find it suspicious this provincial order has come so soon after the municipal election. It doesn't give the new city council much opportunity to get up to speed on these orders.
