This proposal plans to remove lands from the Greenbelt Area that are currently protected. The fact that they could be suitable for residential development in the near term doesn't change the fact that they were protected for very good reasons.
Add lands in the Paris Galt Moraine to the Greenbelt Area, designated as Protected Countryside with a Natural Heritage System is a GREAT idea!
Again, changing the designation of protected lands in the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan Area for near-term residential development further harms the environment and overrides the wishes of many constituents in the affected areas.
AFFORDABLE housing is needed in Ontario. But that mustn't come at the expense of the natural areas that support wildlife, recreation (leading to the health and wellness of constituents), areas that contribute to offsets of carbon-producing activities, and many other benefits.
The Ford Government thinking that planning that works in existing, high-density, urban areas would also work in protected suburban / rural areas just doesn't make sense.
Aside from adding lands in the Paris Galt Moraine to the Greenbelt area, the other objectives of this proposal must be stopped.
