As urban centres increase in population density, the importance of green spaces and parks will be even more important.
1. The idea that high density builds should have decreased park requirements is inappropriate to the building of a livable city. It is the people in these sort of apartments who most need access to adjacent green spaces.
2. This legislation seems to be giving hand-outs to developers, excusing them from their financial and moral obligations. After all, when the build is complete they walk away with millions of dollars. It should not be the municipality that carries the debt for the infrastructure of new builds; nor should the residents be obliged to live in a concrete jungle.
I believe that planning parks along with our desperately needed low-income housing is critical to everyone's quality of life.
