I oppose the proposed changes. I live in the Oak Ridges Moraine, in a designated Natural Core Area where development is very restricted. My 4ha of prime southern Ontario forest is protected against cutting and allows only a single family home. The ORM Act was enacted to permanently protect sensitive and environmentally important lands and species. The Premier has betrayed his promise to continue this protection, he cares nothing about the environment and is doing this just to benefit his questionable developer friends. It isn’t necessary since many municipalities have had Official Plan amendments that enlarge their territory in order to build more homes. Municipal Affairs just announced this but the Premier intends to bulldoze his way into the protected Greenbelt as well.
This is not only lying to us and reneging on his promises but a betrayal of the younger generation who need these lands protected for their future. Once the land is paved it is forever useless for anything else, not for food, protection of wildlife or ecosystems. Ford’s 2 governments have restricted the roles of Conservation Authorities to enable this destruction and taken to issuing MZOs to override local planning. There are many other options for building more houses and public transportation not in the Greenbelt. Please stop this rape of the Greenbelt, it was created in order to protect these lands, not to build estate housing and useless highways.
