The changes of the More Homes Built Faster Acr to reduce development fees will have the effect of transferring the costs of new developments from developers to taxpayers. New developments, particular suburban ones, are already a drain on municipal resources. These changes will have the effect of further subsidizing developers at the expense of taxpayers.
Moreover, capping the amount that can be charged for parkland development will only serve to further limit the amount of parkland available. We need more, not less parkland, especially with more intensive development.
Although this legislation has som positive impact elements, it’s overall impact would deprive municipalities of key areas of local control over development and stands to have a negative impact on the development of healthy, vibrant communities.
