The 2-year proposal by this government isn't enough of a commitment to Ontarians, the economy, housing or family values. I request the government of Ontario change the 2 year proposal to a 30 year proposal.
1) Ontarians need housing and Rondeau has a solid base of around 279 permanent and temporary homes. No approvals are needed; no process is needed. Changing the 2 year proposal to a 30 year is a simple keystroke, no more.
2) This would be the third short lease and it is showing in the degradation of the homes. Degraded buildings are a safety concern and an eyesore.
3) For many people these are their homes. These short leases are causing family's stress and wear. Family's homes degrade as they're afraid to spend on their homes, in fear of losing them. As Ontarians we can do better for them, and we should.
4) These cottages make up less than 1% of the total area in Rondeau so their impact to the land and resources is minimal and the environment is well preserved.
5) The housing sector is the single biggest driver in the economy. Failed cottages contribute nothing. However, a robust community delivers jobs, dollars and happiness to the people. These cottages are part of the community of Chatham Kent, an area that is in great need of a more robust community.
One last note: the ERO may provide us the ability to comment on the proposal but we really need your voice. This community is in need of sound leadership and community commitment. Come to our community. Meet with us. Hear us.
Sincerely. A lover of nature and a cottage owner at Rondeau.
