I am opposed to any changes to the existing greenbelt in Ontario and deeply disappointed that Mr. Ford is reneging on his campaigning commitment to upholding and protecting the precious green belt lands.

Instead of protecting lands, natural habitats, heritage resources, creating more farm to table foods, increasing local businesses and most importantly upholding the many unique and irreplaceable greenspaces and “conservation” lands, Mr. Ford is selling off precious lands to a hand full of developers to build more single-family tract homes that contribute to even more urban sprawl and keep the commuter car culture alive. What happened to “Ontario the Beautiful”?

Mr. Ford’s thinking about dismantling the greenbelt is backwards – he is not even future proofing for today’s climate change reality, not protecting our natural habitats, not creating healthy environments and ignoring what all leading global cities have on their agendas!

I am not a NIMBY. There is plenty of smart growth opportunities for multi-family “New Canadians” housing and we sorely need more urban intensification, better inner city and suburban transit solutions – but none should be done at the expense of irreplaceable green belt.

Mr. Ford you are not a progressive conservative – your thinking is backwards, behind every other provinces’ goals to consider climate change and the impact on our climate and our lives.
